Aftercare & Warranty

Store uncompressed out of direct sunlight in a dry, cool place. If your down feels damp, air it thoroughly before storing away. If the product is still damp after airing a short program in a tumble dryer on a cool setting should restore the loft.

The cleaning of down products is essential to ensure the long life of the product and retain maximum loft from the down. Special care should be taken when cleaning down products to avoid any imperfections. When dried inadequately, the down may become clumpy and uneven. This can result in a failure to perform at the original state and a fall in insulation warmth.

Cleaning Sprayway down products is a time consuming job as the drying process can take several hours. Take consideration before starting that the product will have enough time to dry. Allow at least 3-4 hours for a jacket and 6-8 hours for a sleeping bag.

1) Hand or machine wash on a gentle 40º cycle with a specific down wash product such as Grangers Down Wash.
2) Rinse to make sure there is no soap residue present within the product. You may wish to repeat the rinse cycle to be sure all soap residue is removed. An extra spin cycle will also help to remove excess water. If you are cleaning a box walled product, when removing it from the washing machine ensure that the weight of the item is supported by ‘cradling’ it in a bath towel or similar. DO NOT just pull from the machine. Doing so may result in damage to the down compartments.
3) Immediately after, place the product in the tumble dryer and set to a cool setting. Remove the item from the dryer every hour, manipulating the down within the baffles to restore loft. Avoid the temptation to remove the item from the dryer too soon. Although the outer fabrics may feel dry and warm to the touch, the down contained within the baffling can still be clumped because of moisture. Note: add tennis balls to the dryer for extra clumping prevention.
4) When finished it is advisable to store uncompressed in a dry, cool place. Airing should continue for two days before use. Failure to allow enough time for the item to dry will result in a flat looking garment that will need to be re-washed and dried again.

Though it is possible to wash your own down products, we recommend that you have your sleeping bag professionally cleaned by a service that specialises in cleaning down. It will save you time and energy.

Cleaning Sprayway waterproofs instructions are as follows. A more detailed instruction can be found on the garment label. Machine or hand wash using a technical cleaner such as Grangers Performance Wash on a 30ºC cycle. AVOID detergents, fabric conditioners, dry cleaning and ironing as these may damage the garment.

Hand dry or tumble dry on a low temperature unless stated differently on the label. Tumble-drying helps maintain the DWR.

How to Waterproof a Gore-Tex Jacket

Waterproofing a GORE-TEX jacket will eventually be required because despite the inner layer being a breathable waterproof membrane, the outer layer (shell) of the jacket will lose its water repellence, soak up water and stay wet. This will make the jacket less breathable and hinder the performance of the GORE-TEX fabric. Dirt, grease and muck will also hamper a coat’s breathability.
Re-proofing is quick and easy for all waterproof breathable jackets using a combination of washing and technical re-proofing products such as those made by Grangers.

To take care of both cleaning and reproofing in one step, consider using Grangers Wash + Repel Clothing 2 in 1. This 2-in-1 formulation offers powerful cleaning and durable repellency whilst saving water, energy and time. Otherwise, you can clean and reproof in separate steps:

Step 1:

It’s important to take care of your gear but waterproofing dirty clothing just really doesn’t make sense. It won’t perform as well, it’ll affect breathability and it won’t look the part. Please follow the cleaning steps above before reproofing your garment.

Step 2:

Rinse the garment thoroughly in clean water or do an extra rinse-cycle in the washing machine.

Step 3a – if the jacket is worn next to the skin or has a wicking layer:

You don’t need to wait for the jacket to dry out from washing…

Lay the jacket out flat and spray the entire outer shell with Grangers Clothing Repel (or similar).

Make sure you cover all external surfaces of the jacket and leave the Clothing Repel to soak in for a couple of minutes.

Mop up any excess using a piece of kitchen towel – you don’t want pools of it to form.

Step 3b – if the jacket goes over non-wicking or multiple layers:

You don’t need to wait for the jacket to dry out from washing…

Repeat the washing process (hand or machine) but use 100ml of Grangers Clothing Repel (or similar) instead of Tech Wash.

Again, make sure that there is no trace of detergent, washing powder or fabric softener in your machine beforehand.

Step 4:

Either air-dry or tumble-dry the jacket, depending on what it says on its care label.

Step 5:
Wear your jacket in the rain and marvel as water runs off it like it was brand-new again.

You should notice two things – the surface treatment causing water to bead and not ‘wet out’ the fabric. And also an improvement in breathability – usually best understood by you feeling less clammy.
