SAVE OUR OUTDOOR ED September 20, 2020 Many residential outdoor centres across the country are facing very bleak prospects and several have already closed. Most are making incredibly talented staff redundant. We all know how valuable and life enriching residential outdoor experiences are it is something we have witnessed first-hand through our partnership with the Hollowford Centre/Lindley Education Trust. “Hollowford Centre is a activity of the Lindley Educational Trust a 55 year old charity based in the Derbyshire Peak District, The current DfE guidance leaves the charity grappling with its survival. Having delivered little if any traded services over the last 6 months. We are incredibly sad that children cannot benefit from visiting the centre to participate in life enhancing personal and social development activities, when they need us most. For many schools a visit to Hollowford is an important part of their school year , strengthening teacher / student trust and understanding as well as often sparking a life time interest in healthy outdoor pursuits. For some school clients 2020 will be the first time in over 30 years that they have been unable to offer this experience” Mark Williams – Head of Centres With relaxed social distancing in school bubbles, it makes no sense that children and young people are missing out.
