Komoot Hiking Rally 2.0 2025

Komoot Hiking Rally 2.0 2025

Walking the oldest trail in the UK – The Pennine way. A Proper Northern Adventure.

To say the 2025 Komoot Hiking rally was a walk in the park would be a complete lie. The team faced relentless rain and sideways winds all weekend. Setting off from Edale the group would scale a 27 miles route to Marsden.

For some in the group the challenge of walking 27 miles in horrible conditions was a daunting task. The Get to the start line Fund is offered to three people each year to allow them to experience some lovely northern hillwalking. Luckily, the newbies had support from experienced walkers like our Sprayway ambassadors Ste and Mark to help them along the way.

Friday

Friday Night set the tone with pizza at Newfold Farm followed by inspiring campfire talks. Martyn (Pennine Way Ranger) shared the history of the trail, while adventurer Alex Staniforth encouraged everyone to think about their “next adventure” whether big or small. Unfortunately, the weather forecast for Saturday wasn’t as positive.

“Alex during the campfire talks said that we should take things ‘one mountain at a time’. For me, even that felt too big, so I told myself: one step at a time. During the hike, whenever things got difficult, I repeated that to myself. One step at a time kept me going.” – GGTSL Explorer

Saturday

Saturday’s hike proved to be a real test, with 18+ miles of relentless rain, wet tents, and tricky trail conditions. Yet these challenges brought people closer together bonding over soggy feet, shared trail snacks, and keeping each other motivated. Some huddled in the barn with hot drinks and laughter, while others pushed through the sideways rain to set up camp, all proud of their achievement.

“The clothing was especially helpful, as I had no idea how to layer effectively for hiking before the rally.” GGTSL Explorer

Sunday

Sunday came around and the Saturday had taken a toll on the group. Not everyone made it to the end of the journey but, that’s ok. The Rally wasn’t about how far or how fast; it’s about the adventure, the shared experience of the outdoors with others.

“Through rain-soaked trails and muddy climbs, Komoot’s hike became a story of courage, kindness, and connection. With every legend helping others, we all reached the finish line safe and smiling. Along the way, I found a new friend, Aiden — proof that every storm hides a brighter adventure ahead.” GGTSL Explorer

No records were broken over the weekend and that’s okay, sometimes the outdoors doesn’t need to be challenging and horrible. If you had fun with friends, that’s all that matters. The most important part of the rally was supporting people who haven’t had the chance to experience the great outdoors before, hopefully it inspired them to go and explore more of the UK and beyond.
