Sprayway offers waterproofing for walkers on a budget

Walkers on a tight budget looking for waterproof protection can gear up from head to foot for £200.

Sprayway’s Trek collection includes the men’s Nyx jacket and the Eos for women, offering Gore-Tex reassurance.

Both retail at £130 and have fixed, two-way hoods with snap-away feature, tethered face drawcords and hidden cord locks.

The jackets each have two-way front zip with external double storm flaps and a map pocket under the storm guard.

The waterproofs have part-elasticated cuffs with Velcro and tab adjustment and each packs away into the internal pocket.

Both the Nyx and the Eos feature two-layer Gore-Tex, and the women’s coat weighs in at 506g and is available in sizes 8 to 18.

The men’s jacket is available in sizes S to XXL and tips the scales at 569g.

To complement the jackets, Sprayway has the All Day Rainpant which includes a durable water-resistant finish and waterproof taped lining. Sprayway says the overtrousers are cut for ultimate comfort to keep walkers dry and protected all day.

The pants retail at £70 and continue to be a bestselling design for the Hyde-based company.

The trousers have a semi-elastic waistband, zip-fly front, two zipped pockets and are available in short and regular lengths, sizes S to XXL. The All Day Rainpant weighs 410g.

Winter Walks 10 - Blakeney Freshes, Norfolk

Happy Christmas!! And here is our 10th Winter Walk for this season, Blakeney Freshes, Norfolk.

The Norfolk coast is one of the best parts of the country for bird watching as there are so many nature reserves all the way along it with lots of salt marshes and other good habitats.

This walk takes you between an area of reed beds and marshes with Blakeney Harbour on the other side. The landscape is full of big open skies and you can see up and down the coast for several miles in both directions, while looking straight out to the North Sea.

For further details please check out the Sprayway Walks section of our website.

Lasting Well

I have used the All Day Rainpants for well over 24 months now and have done allot of miles in them in the harsh conditions of Derbyshire's Dark Peak.

They have remained in very good condition with no rips or tears and all stitchwork remains intact, the inside liner really gives that extra comfort and warmth, and its great not to have to carry and stop to put on over-trousers when the rain starts.

Waterproofing is also very good, I wore these recently on a hike and it rained for 5hrs non stop and I remained dry, and comfortable throughout.

The only weakness is the fly zip, in real bad weather you need to wear your jacket below the zip or I have found water runs down the front of your jacket and straight into the fly area which then will slowly seep through, I guess this is a trade off of the convenience have having the fly, but if Sprayway were going to do a Mk2 All Day Rainpant it would be nice to see extra waterproof measures around the fly zip.

I am awarding 4 stars, losing 1 star due to possable leaking at the fly, but in all other respects 5 stars is due.

Autumn Weather Conundrums?

We love Autumn at Sprayway, as the countryside changes from the familiar greens of the "summer" months to the wild array of colours all around Britain.

It's stunning.

Not only, that but the walks are a little bit quieter and little bit more peaceful. Lush!

The only downfall of course, can be the weather. Not so much the weather itself, more the changeability of it! At this moment in time across Britain we have snow in Scotland, lashing rain in Manchester (standard) and Mediterranean temperatures in the South!

So what to wear?

Sprayway and one of our online retailers Cave & Crag have the ideal solution this month...Whatever the weather plans on doing the All Day Rainpant can be put on in the morning and will keep you dry and comfortable all day long.

Not an overtrouser and not a standard pair of walking pants these do both jobs, keeping the weather out, whilst being warm and comfortable at the same time!

Check out Cave & Crag here for a fantastic offer!

Joe Brown's Opens New Store in Llanberis!

Sprayway stockist Joe Brown, already with outlets at Menai Hall, Llanberis and Capel Curig, has opened a new store - the Corner Shop in Llanberis.

It's a fantastic bright, spacious store, an ambassador for how outdoor retailers could look. With a great range of Sprayway adults and kids garments on offer, in an array of colours, Joe Brown at The Corner Shop is definitely worth a trip.

Not only is the store itself fantastic, but being in Llanberis it is at the base of the Llanberis Path, so absolutely ideal for any walking ascent of Snowdon or indeed as a base for any walk in around Llyn Padarn.

Incredible Pant

Bought a pair from Edge of The World, Ambleside before Christmas and the performance still amazes me everytime I wear them our. Friends and family wouldn't believe they actually worked until they saw them in action out on the hill.

Comfortable, functional and a great fit. Can't say enough for these trousers!!

All Day Rainpant

Winter has well and truly arrived, and any trip outside requires excessive amounts of time peering out the window trying to second guess the almighty beast that is the British weather in winter, and then taking extra of everything anyway, yes? No.

Sprayway’s All-Day Rainpant is a pant that does exactly what it says on the tin. With the appearance and feel of regular walking trousers, these pants will keep you dry and comfortable whatever the weather.

they are very comfortable and very warm especially on cold days. The fact they are waterproof and can keep you dry is a fantastic bonus for such a good fitting pair of trousers. They wash beautifully as well.

Trail - All Day Rainpant

When it's raining you need waterproof overtrousers as well, right? Wrong! Why not just wear normal trousers that are waterproof instead? It saves you the cash, discomfort and weight of buying, wearing and carrying both trousers and overtrousers.

Sprayway All Day Rainpant (6 month test)

Only 430g (mens size L) and you don't need additional legwear. The breathable stretch Hydrodry fabric with a hydrostatic head of 5000mm has taped seams. There is a zip fly and elasticated waist, plus two pockets. I've been wearing them most days on my valley trips.

Clammier than non-waterproof trousers, but not as clammy as expected. I have often left them on all day and remained reasonably comfortable, even indoors. I don't expect them to remain waterproof as long as dedicated overtrousers with higher levels of hydrostatic head or durability, but so far they are still waterproof.

Verdict

For valley and shorter day walks, these waterproof trousers are all I wear now. They are ideal for working and standing around indoors too. However they do rustle more than a regular pair, and for longer walks and more comfort in the mixed, unpredictable weather of the mountains, there is still a place for a good walking trouser plus a dedicated overtrouser
