16Nov 10 Zao Jacket - 4/5 Adventure Travel

Rosie Fuller of Adventure Travel has just reviewed the female version of our product of the month - the Zao Jacket. Read the full review below!

Sprayway's new Zao jacket is insulated for warmth, and having tested these jackets walking in the rain, wind and cold of the Uk and the Alps, I reckon that's no bad thing. And that's only based on autumn weather, let alone winter.

The jacket's shell is Gore-Tex Performance Shell, and the insulation inside is zoned, which means it's thicker in some places than others - the arms are slightly less insulated, for example, for ease of movement. In use this means you can wear it over just a base layer on warmer days (and it's comfortable on the skin if you're wearing it with short sleeves), or without having to wear an extra jumper on colder ones. Or, just as a warmer alternative to your normal system. when it's in the rucksack, this means the Zao is bulkier and heavier than most jackets on test of course - but if it saves you carrying another layer, that's OK.

In the features department, the jacket has two fleece-lined handwarmer pockets (it really i all about the warmth); a two-way main zip with a double Velcro storm flap and a small Velcro inner pocket that would be good for a car key or phone. Sleeves are Velcro and the hem tightens easily with one hand. The hood's a good size with a stiffened peak, and it adjusts at the back of the head. It can be rolled away while not in use, via Velcro and poppers, but I couldn't do it while wearing the coat. The jacket's good looks should be acknowledged too - the test one was a chic grey with a pink trim, and it's nicely cut. I'd definitely want to be seen in it.

To conculde, if you know that you feel the cold, or will mostly be using the jacket in colder weather, it's great.

In a line: Great Looking Warm Jacket

15Nov 10 Product of the Month - Kenai/Zao

New for Winter 2010 is our insulated Gore-Tex® Performance Shell walking jacket - the Kenai.

It's already been causing a bit of a stir in stores throughout the UK since it's hit. Unlike a lot of insulated pieces, the Zao is surprisingly light, and the soft handle fabric means it's quiet and can be stuffed away in your bag when not needed.

The clean look and cut of the jacket also mean it's just as happy thrown on with jeans when you need something warm to get you to the pub!

Most importantly however it performs to the highest standard with Gore-Tex® Performance Shell waterproof ratings and zoned insulation so it won't restrict your movement while keeping you warm and comfortable.

Available in womens as Zao.

4Nov 10 Remember, remember it's wet in November

405 years ago this Friday a little known soldier tired to set off some over the top fireworks underneath the Houses of Parliament and change the course of history. Alas his plan was foiled, the man became infamous and effigies of him are burned all over Britain in remembrance.

It was, of course, Guy Fawkes night and 45ft high effigies of various celebrities and the man himself are being built around the country for us to enjoy. There will be a grand selection of fireworks displays to choose from and everybody's favourite seasonal treats on offer, from toffee apples to sausage rolls on sticks straight off the bonfire!

Despite it being an outdoor event - it is now November - so make sure you're prepared when you head out to enjoy your festivities! Wrap up in your fleeces, jackets, hats and gloves and make sure you're not caught out in the nip.

At Sprayway we'll be enjoying the displays in and around Manchester this evening, but check out the Independent's Top 10 Bonfire Night's for some further ideas.

Enjoy the festivities, and please be responsible,

28Oct 10 Autumn Walk 7 - Grizedale

To the "home" of British Autumn Walks for our final selection - Cumbria, the Lake District. Grizedale Forest Park located to the East of Coniston Water and south of Hawkshead (see our Hawkshead retailer - Summitreks - online here) is a perfect day out whatever you're looking for outdoors. There's Go Ape, fantastic food, and a series of great walks on offer.

The forest takes on a new life this time of year with the changing colours of the leaves, and the nearby fells - which can be viewed from a number of high points within the forest - also look superb in autumn, and this walk is the perfect opportunity to drink it all in.

Distance: 5 Miles

Duration: 2 hours

Kit: Sturdy shoes or boots and water - there's plenty of cafes around for great food.

Level: Day-tripper (It is the Lakes though - there's always scope to go as far as you like)

Start from the Grizedale visitor centre and follow the red footprints into the forest, and on a long loop that provides stunning views over Coniston Water and the blaze of treetops throughout the area. Full details can be found here.

The walk brings you naturally back to the car park where you started, however for something a bit more full on, feel free to venture further south and follow the lake side for some gorgeous vistas across the lake.

Please check the Dalesman website for full details or you can find more about the forest itself here

27Oct 10 Autumn Walk 6 - Coleridge Way

Again, we’re sending you south for this walk, but generally Somerset can be overlooked by serious walkers - a terrible crime in our eyes when you see what's on offer!

We’ve picked out our own favourite section for you, but anywhere along the trail is worthy of a day on the trail and the Coleridge Way Website has full details of other options.

Distance: 9 Miles

Duration: 4-5 hours

Kit: Sturdy shoes or boots, water, and a packed lunch is recommended,

Level: Day-Tripper to Keen (it’s all in how you take it!)

We’ve chosen the 9 mile stretch from Wheddon Cross to Porlock, with the wonderful dells and combes of Blagdon Wood giving way to views from the moorland heights of Dunkery Hill. The walk finishes with a long and lovely descent through oaks and beech avenues to Porlock. Upon finishing you might not quite feel like plonking down to write some literary genius, but it is easy to see how Coleridge was inspired to write his best work while living here.

The visitor centre is definitely worth a peek and you’d be a fool not to get your hands on one of his books, or the books about him, all the easier to immerse yourself in this beautiful countryside.

Please do check the Coleridge Way Website for details on the full 36 mile trail, as well as useful maps, practical information and a little bit of history on the great man himself.

26Oct 10 Autumn Walk 5 - Ashdown Forest

For something a little bit different and that will definitely be a hit with the kids, head south to Ashdown Forest, East Sussex.

Distance 3 miles

Duration 1–2 hours

Kit required Pooh sticks, A A Milne storybook

Level Day Tripper

One of the greatest open spaces in southern England, Ashdown Forest in East Sussex is Winnie-the-Pooh land! Where A A Milne found inspiration among woody clumps and stick-racing streams. Much of the forest actually disappeared centuries ago, to be replaced by heath and fern. Yet this 6,500-acre space offers particularly vivid pleasures to autumn walkers.

The huge variety of landscape in this ancient royal deer-hunting land includes a blend of space and intimacy that's particularly fantastic for children. Naturally, they can play Pooh Sticks in muddy streams among oak and birch stands, but they can also run wild on open heath and enjoy the sheer distance in every direction.

You, meanwhile, can see 20 miles of gorgeous treetop views spreading from the forest's high ground towards the distant North Downs. And as autumn progresses, these trees mottle and daub the horizon in a hazy way that's interspersed with lines of low mist. It feels like impressionist art.

There are countless walking opportunities here, but perhaps the best lies on a minor road off the A22 just north of the village of Nutley. Turn right immediately beyond the village, rattle over a cattle grid and find the car park a few hundred yards on. Go off to the right of the road, not left, and you'll find a vast open space fringed by woodland. Simply follow the space around, pausing to play Pooh Sticks in streams at the bottom of the hill. Allow one to two hours, depending on how the stick races go.

25Oct 10 Autumn Walk 4 - Pitlochry

Walk number 4 takes us (and you) to Perthshire, Scotland, and Pitlochry for a walk that covers just about every Autumn sight, sound and smell imaginable (as long as you bring your own sparklers!).

Distance 10 miles

Duration 5 hours

Kit boots, water, packed lunch

Level Keen

Rambling experts often claim that some walks "have it all", but this stunning 10-miler from Pitlochry to the Linn of Tummel in Perthshire really does deliver. You have a spectacular gorge, crags, dizzy bridges, viaducts, a loch, monuments, old drove roads and luscious woodlands.

There are some steep climbs, so this isn't for younger children. From the free car park at Loch Faskally Boating Station, just outside Pitlochry, Perthshire, green man waymarkers point the way. Keep Loch Faskally to your left through woodland, skirting Faskally House before climbing into the dramatic Pass of Killiecrankie.

The route tunnels through the woody gorge to Soldier's Leap, arriving at Killiecrankie Visitor Centre. From there, the green men turn blue as you head down into Killiecrankie village, across the River Garry, then up to the parish church at Tenandry – an amazing spot. At the visitor centre they insist: "We're famous for our autumn colours."

Next you drop to the Garry road bridge high above the gorge and into the Linn of Tummel to the Coronation Bridge, where a quiet road winds back to Pitlochry. If you feel exhausted just reading this, think how you'll feel when you've actually done it.

Alternatively, start and finish at Killiecrankie Visitor Centre and follow only the green men for a shorter 4 mile jolly!

The National Trust Visitor Centre at Killiecrankie, 0844 493 2194 (closes Nov 2) has walking maps.

With the weather changing, but the outdoors looking more appealing than ever, with the colours, sights and sounds getting the right gear for getting outside is more important than ever.

24Oct 10 Autumn Walk 3 - Castell Henllys

We're recommending Pembrokeshire, Wales for our next Autumn Walk, with a stack of history mixed in with stunning views and National Park stretching out toward the Irish Sea.

Distance from 2 ½ miles

Duration 1–3 hours

Kit required A stick, it's a slippy uphill start

Level Upwards of Day Tripper, depending on detours

You can vary the length of this lovely circular walk depending on how lively you feel. Either way, you experience the colour of gorgeous woodland and the sight of far-distant heathland mottling and shadowing in the glare of late sunshine.

Follow signs for Castell Henllys Iron Age Fort from the A487 between Cardigan and Newport. At reception, ask for a walk map. The main loop leads up and downhill, across a rustic footbridge into a fine small woodland, then to a field where acorns from nearby ancient Pengelli Forest have been planted.

You'll arrive at a path junction – if you want a longer walk you can turn right into Pengelli Forest itself. There should be a box with a path map of this 160-acre woodland.

Or turn left and complete the circuit back to the car park. In the distance you have exquisite views of the Preseli Hills, which provided rocks for Stonehenge.

22Oct 10 Autumn Walk 2 - Woodpecker Trail

One of the most spectacular walks at this time of year, you will struggle to find a more stunning array of colours in the heart of Northamptonshire.

Distance: 6 miles

Duration: 3-4 hours

Kit required: Rain gear (it is in England), sturdy shoes and water

Level: Beginner

The six-mile circular Woodpecker Trail follows the edge of Salcey Forest, a rare remnant of medieval hunting forest known for its ancient “druid” oaks and its beeches.

A series of fascinating trail-side art sculptures have been installed and a short diversion off the path leads to the Tree Top Walk, a recently built 500yd oak walkway that allows visitors to enjoy the colours 65ft up in the canopy.

In Autumn the view from the walkway is nothing if not spectacular, with a myriad of colours to drink in. And when you're done with them, actually quench your thirst in the cafe (we recommend the scones or flapjacks, you'd be mad to miss out) which is open daily from 10am-5pm.

Further details can be found at Explore Northamptonshire and travel details can be found here.

20Oct 10 Autumn Walk 1 - Stanage Edge

Our first suggestion comes from just down the road from us by Derwent Water.

Distance 12 miles

Duration 6–7 hours

Kit required Boots, rain gear, compass, food and water

Level Advanced

There are a whole host of ways to do Stanage Edge but we’d recommend starting at Grindleford station and then carving a great loop into a landscape composed of woodland and open moor. The path takes you back to the station at day's end, maybe seven hours later, so take water and food.

It’s not ridiculously steep however can be challenging as it is a long slow climb, but any tiredness or heavy breathing will simply vanish as you reach the final view atop “Keira’s Clifftop” (so-called from Miss Knightley’s performance in Pride and Prejudice). An amazing array of colours blazing across the open landscape make all the effort absolutely worthwhile.

See page 326 of Walk Britain, £14.99, published by The Ramblers (www.ramblers.org.uk) for full details or alternatively visit www.visitpeakdistrict.com.

18Oct 10 Hawk Jacket - Best Value

The kids Hawk jacket has just won Best Value in the Trail waterproofs review:

"The price is lower than most jackets in test, and there are some good features for the money. So you get a jacket made from Sprayway's Hydrodry fabric which offers good performance. There is a mesh lining for added comfort, and two hip pockets are provided as well. On this jacket unlike some others you get drawcords at the hem and Velcro adjustment at the cuff, so you can refine the fit as your child grows into it. The hood too has a volume adjuster and elastication around the face for a reasonable fit. It can also be rolled down and secured at the collar if not needed. the front zip has a single stormflap with press studs, and there is reflective piping on the front and back of the sleeves.

Verdict: A great price for a very practical jacket for outdoors action in the rain. 4/5

15Oct 10 Country Walking - Nyx Review

Country Walking have reviewed the Nyx Jacket in their latest waterproofs review, with a top 5 finish in and around jackets in the £200+ range, we're delighted!

"A fairly technical jacket that performs well without looking like high-end mountaineering kit. The shorter cut allows for a good range of movement in comfort. Technically the jacket performs well with the Gore-Tex keeping all rain out. The pockets are mesh-lined, so in theory they double up as vents, but the hip pockets are too small for this purpose. they are also a bit low to be accessed around a pack hip belt. The face fabric has a nice feel and is quiet too..

17/20"

12Oct 10 Trail - Anakin Pro Review

Trail magazine have reviewed the Anakin Pro and Arista Pro, and they stormed into the final, with a joint 2nd finish.

"This is an excellent waterproof for hill-walking and general outdoor travel. One of the great features that sets it apart from others is that it is made from Gore-Tex Pro Shell rather than Paclite, so it controls condensation much better. You get a good set of features too, with two large chest pockets that easily take an OS map. These are mesh-lined, which makes them more breathable and reduces some weight. The hood is particularly good too thanks to a wired peak coupled with face and volume drawcords that allow it to fit well and move with the head. All that for RRP £170 is excellent value."

Verdict: A Gore-Tex Pro Shell jacket with an excellent hood, good pockets and a superb price. 4/5

30Sep 10 Walking World Ireland Review Crux

Walking World Ireland gear tester Andy Callan top scores the Sprayway Crux Jacket.

"I've rallied long and loud in the past about windproof fleece and how suitable it is or isn't for mountain activities, well Sprayway's Crux has gone some of the way to change my mind. Made from Gore's Windstopper - a light microfleece outer bonded to a Windproof breathable membrane - the crux doesn't have the stiff, rubbery feel of some previous versions of the model.

It has 4 pockets - 2 hip, 1 chest, 1 inner - and though the hip pockets are quite low, their zips are just above the hip-belt line so you can access them easily. These pockets extend well up to the chest which means they'll take a folded OS map too.

There's a rollaway wind resistant hood tucked into the collar, too light for serious use but a handy addition all the same. The Crux is quite long for a fleece so check that it suits your waterproof before buying. Other features included are velcro cuffs and hem and waist drawcords, the waist one being cleverly hidden inside the pockets.

I was pleasantly surprised by how light the crux is considering it's such a well featured windproof but I still have concerns as to how quickly it starts to breath given it's a Gore membrane, plus do you really need Windstopper panels on a back that's going to be carrying a rucksack? An impressive jacket but if Sprayway included a non-Gore back panel then it would really be something to rave about."

29Sep 10 Adventure Travel Morph Fleece Review

Adventure Travel have reviewed the Womens Morph fleece this month - 4/5!!

"The Sprayway Morph reminds me of myself - great looking, lightweight, but a few flaws when you get to know it better.

Starting with the good stuff, the Morph's light weight is it's top feature - it's the second lightest fleece in the whole test, and again it fits neatly into the tin. But it scores highly on the warmth factor too. Indeed, this fleece feels like it's taking us into a new level of this review - it's more technical, but at a price that's still good.

Sprayway's fleece material is called exo/therm, and the Morph is exo/therm 100 (exo/therm 200 being the hardier version). As well as being light and warm it's extremely soft and comfy and non-pilling!

I also like the Morph's looks. mine's red, other options include blue , and black with snazzy seams. It's quite a big fit, but that's no problem - either you don't mind it baggy, or you can get a size smaller than usual and feel good about yourself.

Moving on to the flaws. The fleece has two handwarmer pockets that are spacious, and a chest pocket which is tiny - it does for a ski pass or loose change, but that't it unfortunately. Also I've no problem with the jacket being slightly baggy, but to me it would make more sense to add adjustable sleeves which it doesn't have. But perhaps that helps to keep the price at under £40.

Other features of the jacket include an interactive zip - it zips into Sprayway's Hydrolite. Overall I really like it, and it's certainly good for the price.

Available in berry and cobalt colours, the 350 junior comes with many of the features on the adult bags, including the luxurious polycotton inner, fleece foot warmer and the shoulder baffle.

Coming into the winter season now these are perfect for kids sleepovers or for some home from home comfort on any trips away.

14Sep 10 Fortuna Softshell - TGO Recommend!

Augusts Product of the Month - the women's Fortuna Softshell, has just been highly recommended in TGO by Judy Armstrong.

She writes:

"A straightforward stretch-woven softshell. It has a neat cut with good stretch and ample bust room, which will be welcomed by women with bigger chests than me (not difficult: I think my cat has more in that department than me). The zipped pocket on the forearm is OK for a tissue but otherwise rather pointless.

Fabric performance is good: it's heavier than the fabric used by the likes of Outdoor Research and Mountain Hardwear, but it's also warmer and more wind-resistant, and seems to hold the DWR well. Moisture transfer is good. Cuffs are a weak link: I'd remove the velcro tabs and elastication which make the cuffs bulky, especially under a waterproof, and aren't effective for venting. The brushed lining on the collar is welcome and the jacket is comfortable both over and under layers.

25Aug 10 Catstycam Outdoor - 21 Years

Catstycam The Outdoor Shop which has shops in Glenridding and Pooley Bridge on Ullswater, are celebrating their 21st birthday this year. Richard Laverick started the business with his parents Malcolm and Dorothy in 1989 in Glenridding, taking over what was then The Outdoor Equipment Centre. The shop was renamed Catstycam after the pyramid shaped mountain next to Helvellyn, that leads onto Swirral Edge high above the village. After 10 years at Glenridding Richard left to run the Troutbeck Inn and his younger brother Andrew took over the business in 1999.

In 2003 Andrew expanded the business by taking over Ullswater Marine and Mountain in Pooley Bridge and opened the second Catstycam shop.

Now, with help from Cumbria Chamber of Commerce after the floods last November, Catstycam.com has gone live!

“I have wanted to take the shops online for a while but never had the time or the funding to do it. Now I have some great colleagues who have taken some of my workload and given me time to write descriptions for the 6000 plus products we sell. Because of this, and the Flood Recovery Grant from Cumbria Chamber of Commerce I have had the time and funding to build and promote an excellent website that reflects the quality products and service we have always offered through the shops” says Andrew.

“The economic downturn has hit us hard this year so another outlet without the overheads of a third shop is very appealing. What makes this exciting is that how well it performs is down to us. With the shops, we choose the best products we can and train the staff to a very high level, but it is down to the weather and how many people are in the valley that dictates how busy we are. With the website we have the whole country as possible customers and it is down to how well we promote ourselves whether we succeed or not. It is something we can keep trying and changing until we get it right.”

Catstycam has a great record of training and retaining staff. Georgia Roper has been there on the shop floor since the start in 1989, and David Gartside was a runner up in the national “Outdoor Retail Staff of the Year” competition in his second year with the business.

To promote the launch of catstycam.com they have put together a Free Outdoor Competition with a prize fund of over £900 to be won by registering your details online at www.catstycam.com The prize is everything you need to get out on the hill in safety and comfort made up from their favorite clothing and equipment.

30Jun 10 Trail - Kids Waterproof Review

Trail Magazine recently ran their review of kids jackets. Below is the Sprayway Hawk jacket review y Tomas McFarland - Aged 7.

"The jacket fitted well, and it was very comfortable to wear while climbing Tryfan. It was nice and loose so it gave me lots of room to move without the jacket riding up…”

“The sleeves were long but again this was great while stretching out on the climb up Tryfan. The cuffs, waist and hood are all adjustable. The jacket was 8-9 years and my mum said it was a good size for the age.”

“The hood on the jacket is not removable but it can be rolled up and secured with a tab...”

“The jacket was waterproof, so it kept me nice and dry. The zip had a flap over it with a button at the bottom to keep it secure so no water could get in. the material is nice and soft and I found it very comfortable. I think you could use the jacket at any time of the year. A fleece can be zipped into it, which I think is a great idea especially for the winter. On my trip up Tryfan the coat got very muddy, but it washed and dried in no time and looked brand new again."

Verdict:

"This is a great coat and my mum says it's excellent value for money. I looked cool on the hills, and stayed warm and dry. It would be even better if the hood stowed away in a zipped pocket."

21Jun 10 Sprayway Hydrolite Review

The Travel Editor has just reviewed the Sprayway Hydrolite Jacket, and it seems he was impressed - 8/10.

Pros: Stylish design, breathable and so water repellent that you can carry water in it!

Cons: Tech and style costs

Verdict: The perfect travel accessory - very cool, lightweight, waterproof jacket.

Review Highlights: Include some innovative testing of waterproof and windproof ratings, and of breathability. The Hydrolite came out with outstanding results:

“As you'd expect the water rolled off without visibly wetting the material or changing the characteristics.  Dry paper towels held on the reverse side remained dry.“

“Perhaps not the most scientific of tests but I can confirm that the Sprayway Hydrolite Jacket is very windproof up to, in my test, speeds of 30+mph.”

“In all three tests, the Sprayway Hydrolite Jacket passed with flying colours.”

“The jacket itself is quite fitted so there is minimal loose material to flap about.  However, the material also has a degree of stretch making it comfortable to wear. “

19Jun 10 Anakin Pro Trek and Mountain Review

The Sprayway Anakin Pro has come out on top in Trek & Mountain Magazine's review of lightweight summer Waterproofs. See below for the review or click onto their website here.

"Using Gore-Tex 3-layer Pro Shell instead of Paclite, the Anakin Pro feels quite substantial for a jacket that tips the scales at well under 400g. And it's this that makes it a real candidate for regular year-round use. It has a great good, with wired and stiffened peak; and it also has an excellant selection of well-placed pockets."

17Jun 10 Compass Short - Top Marks

New for Summer 2010, the Sprayway Compass Short score 5/5 on www.thetraveleditor.com

Sprayway Compass Shorts with Durable Water Repellent Finish.

UK Price: from £30

Pros: Stylish, lightweight, comfortable and water repellent

Cons: none....is that possible?

Verdict: Must have clothes for an active, outdoor life

"The Sprayway Compass Shorts have all of the features that you’d expect from an outdoor clothing company like Sprayway.  The shorts use TecWeave, a fabric that is exclusive to Sprayway, which is highly durable and lightweight. The Sprayway Compass Shorts weigh just 237g.  The fabric also includes 4% Spandex to give the Sprayway Compass Shorts a slightly stretchy feel. Clearly, this helps the shorts retain their shape but also means that they stretch as you move, making the shorts ideal for active users, as well as being very comfortable.

The Sprayway Compass Shorts are finished with a Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coating, which I was obliged to test.  I ran the shorts under the tap for a couple of minutes but the shorts didn’t seem to absorb any water.  The water just formed droplets and rolled off. Even with the tap at full mains pressure, the water only briefly seemed to make the material wet although the same can't be said for my kitchen. Fantastic.

Despite being high tech, the Sprayway Compass Shorts are machine washable, albeit at 30 degrees, can be tumble dried and ironed.  They come in three, suitably manly colours - gunmetal, black and light khaki. OK...Sprayway need to drop the "light" because it's not that manly.

The Sprayway Compass Shorts are extremely well made with a shaped, semi-elasticated waist (on the hips only).  The shorts have a zip fly with button fastening. There are 3 zipped pockets on the front of the shorts and Velcro fastened pocket to the rear.  The thigh pocket is stitched in to the main body of the fabric so there’s no risk of the pocket liner hanging below the hem of the shorts. Finally, there is one internal zipped, security pocket.

But perhaps most importantly, for all style-conscious hikers, the Sprayway Compass Shorts look good so I was told by my wife!"

27Apr 10 Camping Magazine - Hood River 6 Review

The number of campers taking short breaks is rapidly increasing and, while it is nice to use a large tent, many now realise the benefits of using a smaller, lighter and easier to pitch tent when snatching a weekend away. After all, you can always follow the trend and purchase an optional awning for that extra space needed when on the longer summer holiday...

Sprayway's new Hood River tents are ideal for families wanting to camp regularly. Our test model (The Hood River 6) was quick to pitch and provided plenty of versatile space. Packed, the tent will easily fit in most car boots with plenty of room to spare and the tent bag is a good size if you do not fold it as neatly as you should.

We particularly like the two double bedrooms. A family of four can use the smaller inner for the kids allowing mum and dad a little privacy in their larger bedroom opposite. The spare double can then be split into the wardrobe and a useful storage area. This versatile set up also allows for larger families and guests - neat!

Touring couples may also want to check out the Hood River 4 as a suitable alternative.

This review by Clive Garrett was featured in Camping Magazine - May Edition.

For their work they’ve chosen the Esker and Cipher (Mens) Jackets, and it’s no surprise to us. Made from Gore-Tex Performance Shell (so it’ll keep out the fiercest of downpours and yet stay breathable throughout) it also comes with our Inter-Active (I.A.) zip system, so our Piri and Savannah Fleece Jackets can be easily zipped in for added warmth. With a roll away removable hood, articulated sleeves and a stylish cut, the Esker is equally at home both on and off the hill.

Press Release

Sprayway are pleased to "Spring into Summer" by announcing their new sponsorship deal with the Lake District National Park Authority’s Volunteer Service.  Sprayway will be providing the volunteers, who guide and escort thousands of visitors around the Lake District every year, with Sprayway branded waterproof jackets and fleeces.

Our own Marketing Manager Rob Sykes said the two organisations fitted together perfectly fir this joint venture with both having such committed and respected links to the great outdoors. And he acknowledged the valuable support from Gore in this project, who provided the GORE-TEXâ fabric for the jackets.

“We are very proud to have teamed up with the Lake District National Park Volunteer Service. The work they do in the Lake District is so valued and it is vital that not only are the volunteers well equipped for the job, but the are also branded and highly visible.

“This is the first time the volunteer service has been sponsored and branded in this way and I hope it is a partnership that will last for a considerable time. By choosing Sprayway for such a demanding job in such testing conditions, the National Park Authority has given our clothing range a fantastic endorsement,” Rob explained.

National Park Volunteer Co-ordinator Tim Duckmanton said “We are absolutely delighted with this new Sprayway kit. Our volunteers perform their public duties offering advice and leadership, throughout the year in whatever weather the Lake District climate throws at them, so it is important that they are suitably kitted out and their clothing is equal to the job.”

16Mar 10 Arista Pant - Best in Test

The Sprayway Arista Pant (Mens version Anakin Pant), have been voted Best in Test, in the Country Walking waterproof trousers test. See the review below:

Cut quite loose to fit over bulky walking trousers, the Aristas also have articulated knees. The ankles are tapered, with a Velcro flap to adjust the way they fit over the boot. There’s a soft fleece lining on the waistband which feels great against the skin, and is especially welcome for cold fingers when you’re pulling them on in a hurry. Out in the hills they perform superbly, and the fabric keeps water out and breathes well too. Knee-high leg-zips mean you can get them on and off fairly easily. An excellent all-rounder that is lightweight enough to carry in your pack for emergency use only, but comfortable and durable enough for regular use or wearing all day. A top-quality waterproof trouser with a price tag to match.

Comfort & Fit: 9/10

Performance: 10/10

Total: 19/20

With the kids well into the scheme, Lisa called in Julie to pass on some of the secrets to great outdoor products and was delighted with the workshop "the session was fantastic, informative and engaging - pupils have gained an insight into the requirements of outdoor clothing, analysing existing products and developing ideas."

Head of Design Julie was suitably impressed by the talent on display and more than happy to get involved in this project that is getting fresh faces involved in, and enjoying, the outdoors.

Julie is hoping to get back into the Academy in the future to help further down the design process, and to check them out yourselves the aspiring designers products will be on display at this years Innovex Conference in April.

17Jan 10 Sprayway Teams Up With National Park Volunteers

Sprayway are pleased to kick off 2010 by announcing their new sponsorship deal with the Lake District National Park Authority’s Volunteer Service.  Sprayway will be providing the volunteers, who guide and escort thousands of visitors around the Lake District every year, with Sprayway branded waterproof jackets and fleeces.

The Male and Female Wardens will be kitted out in Cipher I.A. jackets and Esker I.A. jackets respectively. These Gore-Tex Performance Shell Waterproofs have been a mainstay in the Sprayway range for 4 seasons and now with the Genesis and Savannah will be protecting the Lake District Volunteers from the elements whilst serving the public over the coming years.
